The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, communicating via X, denounced the parliamentary elections held in Belarus on Sunday as having “nothing to do with democracy.”

According to the ministry, the election process and its outcomes testify to the “continuing desire of the authorities in Minsk to ignore the will of its own people.”

Furthermore, the ministry urged for the immediate release of all political detainees in Belarus and advocated for dialogue with independent factions. “The people of Belarus deserve a free and democratic state that is a part of the European family,” the ministry emphasized.

The elections on Sunday lacked opposition representation and independent observers, underscoring the authoritarian dominance of Belarusian politics by President Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who has held power since 1994.
