Poland’s love affair with street art has been well documented, with cities like Łódź, Gdańsk and Warsaw all helping place the country on the map – but in the countryside, something too is stirring thanks to the efforts of Arkadiusz Andrejkow, an artist who uses barns, sheds and cottages as his primary choice of canvas.

In Poland, Tytus Brzozowski has established himself as one of the country’s best-loved artists; abroad, his engaging depictions of Poland’s cities, and their history and culture, have earned him a new audience of admirers and made him something of an artistic ambassador for the country.

Exactly 50 years ago, the first residents of Gdańsk’s box-fresh Zaspa housing estate were making themselves at home, completely unaware that they had just moved into what would later become one of the largest open-air art galleries in Europe.

A new project has seen priceless artworks lost during WWII replicated as murals on the walls of the Tri-City.
