Warsaw mayor Rafał Trzaskowski has urged the public to use public transport instead of their own cars after torrential rain brought severe flooding to the capital.

Severe storms have engulfed Poland, unleashing torrential rains and strong winds that have caused widespread damage.

Severe storms and heavy rainfall wreaked havoc across Poland in early July, flooding cities and straining emergency services around the country.

Firefighters were called out over 2,400 times, with Silesia seeing over 1,000 interventions as the Met Office declared the country’s third highest level weather warning.

By 19:00 on Saturday, Poland’s State Fire Service had responded to 261 calls due to storms and high winds across the country.
