A fast-moving wildfire fuelled by gale-force winds moved closer to Athens on Monday, forcing evacuations of hospitals and at least 11 towns and villages.

Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated on Thursday his intention to thwart North Macedonia’s bid to join the European Union (EU).

Some of the new connections will be available as early as mid-March.

On Wednesday, thousands of striking Greek workers and students marched through central Athens to commemorate the anniversary of the country’s deadliest train crash and to demand justice and larger pay raises.

Greek farmers were expected to drive into Athens with tractors on Tuesday to protest outside parliament over the impact of rising energy costs, competition from abroad, and recent flooding.
