Presidents of the Visegrad Four countries are meeting in Trenčín, Slovakia, on Thursday for talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Ukraine, energy and the EU’s future. The two-day summit brings together Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, a Central European grouping founded in 1991. Slovak President Peter Pellegrini is hosting the gathering, the first V4 presidential summit attended by von der Leyen. The presidents held economic consultations and attended a concert on Wednesday. Thursday's negotiations at Trenčín Castle will address EU enlargement, support for Ukraine and energy affordability. For Polish President Karol Nawrocki, the meeting also offers a chance to consult regional counterparts ahead of December's G20 summit in Miami, presidential aide Marcin Przydacz said. Poland is attending the G20 as a guest of the United States and is seeking a permanent seat. Nawrocki plans to convey regional concerns over energy, trade and industrial cooperation.
