Reuters reported that some NATO allies, including Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, had been told inflammatory statements were undermining European security Warsaw has not been urged by Washington to soften its tone in public statements about Russia, Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has said, following media reports that the Pentagon had made such requests to several NATO allies. Reuters reported on Friday that Pentagon officials, including policy chief Elbridge Colby, had urged several NATO allies, among them the Baltic states, to tone down their rhetoric about Russia, with Colby reportedly advising one Baltic official against “poking” Moscow with inflammatory remarks. “We are not provoking anyone,” Kosiniak-Kamysz told a press briefing at a Polish military base on Friday. “We are doing this solely to ensure that no one ever attacks Poland. We are training so that we are secure. We have absolutely no intention of starting any wars.” ‘Don’t make noise’ The reports come against a backdrop of renewed diplomatic efforts by Washington to secure peace in Ukraine. One European official described the US message as: “We are helping you. The Americans are there. Just don't be loud. Don't make noise.” The Pentagon declined to comment on the reports, telling Reuters: “Private conversations among allies are just that, so we will not comment on these allegations.”
