Officers fired warning shots during the high-stakes pursuit Polish authorities have arrested a man who was fleeing in an ambulance after a dramatic pursuit that saw police firing warning shots and a female officer left injured. Officers spotted the ambulance, which was on a list of suspect vehicles, near the town of Lewin Brzeski in southwestern Poland on Friday morning, news outlet RMF FM reported. The driver ignored orders to stop and fled, prompting a pursuit. Police set up roadblocks to intercept the vehicle, but the driver struck a female officer at one of them. She was taken to hospital for treatment. "Fortunately, her life is not in danger, but she suffered significant injuries," Agnieszka Żyłka, a spokesperson for the provincial police headquarters, was cited as saying by RMF FM. Officers fired warning shots during the pursuit, but no one was injured by the gunfire. The chase ended in a village when police arrested the driver. According to RMF FM, the man had leased the ambulance but failed to make payments, leading authorities to place the vehicle on a wanted list. The 45-year-old suspect has a previous criminal record of fraud. Several years ago, he allegedly used an ambulance and a paramedic's uniform to obtain money from people by falsely claiming his vehicle had broken down and that he needed funds for a tow truck.
