One suspect was wearing extensions police believe may have been stolen Polish police have arrested three people suspected of stealing natural hair extensions in a series of burglaries across the country, with total losses estimated at more than 1 million zloty (about €230,000). Officers in the northern city of Gdańsk detained two women, aged 32 and 38, and a 46-year-old man in connection with the alleged thefts, authorities announced on Tuesday. The group is suspected of breaking into three natural hair wholesalers’ premises in Gdańsk, Kowale and Poznań earlier this year. Police said the investigation began on April 28, when they received a report of a break-in at a Gdańsk wholesaler storing natural hair extensions. Detectives spent months reviewing security footage and gathering evidence to identify the suspects and track them down. Police said their painstaking work allowed them to identify three suspects and establish where they were staying. Later that day, police, supported by counterterrorism officers, arrested the 46-year-old man. At his home, they found items believed to have been used to commit crimes. The man was initially released under police supervision but was arrested again in October after a higher court ordered him held in pretrial detention, police said. In September, officers also arrested the 38-year-old woman. At the time of her arrest, she was wearing hair extensions that police said may have been among the stolen goods. That same day, investigators found additional stolen hair extensions at a hair salon. All three suspects have each been charged with three counts of burglary, with the thefts causing losses of more than 1 million zloty. If convicted, they face up to 10 years in prison.
