The victory marked Katarzyna Wasick's ninth consecutive World Cup win in the 50m freestyle. Poland's Katarzyna Wasick has won the Swimming World Cup women's 50m freestyle title for the third consecutive year, extending her remarkable winning streak in the event. The 34-year-old secured the title on Friday in Astana, Kazakhstan, clocking 23.30 seconds to beat the Netherlands' Marrit Steenbergen, who finished in 23.41 seconds. The victory marked Wasick's ninth consecutive World Cup win in the 50m freestyle, swimming's shortest individual race. She has remained unbeaten in finals over that distance in 25-meter pools since the 2022 World Championships. “I feel amazing, honestly,” Wasick told World Aquatics, the sport's international governing body. “To be able to win so many times, so many years, at my age, it’s not easy, definitely not easy. But I’m happy I’m able to keep my form and just keep improving. Every stop I was faster, so that makes me really happy,” she added. Wasick also competed in the 100m freestyle on Saturday, finishing fourth in 52.33 seconds. Steenbergen won that race in 50.52 seconds. The competition in Kazakhstan marked the final stop of this year's Swimming World Cup series, following earlier meets in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
