Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film set in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, the bestselling video game from Polish developer CD Projekt RED. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for producing the Transformers franchise, will oversee the project alongside CD Projekt RED. No director, cast or release date has been announced. Released in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. The futuristic role-playing game features Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand, while Idris Elba appeared in its Phantom Liberty expansion. The announcement comes as CD Projekt RED expands its entertainment franchises. The company is also developing a Cyberpunk sequel and the next installment of The Witcher. Paramount is pursuing further video game adaptations, including Street Fighter and Call of Duty. CD Projekt RED's co-CEO Michał Nowakowski welcomed the partnership, saying the companies share creative ambitions for the franchise.
