Poland pushes for permanent G20 membership. Speaking on the sidelines of a G20 meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, Andrzej Domański said the negotiations were “often difficult and complex,” but that Poland had strong arguments in support of its bid, citing the country’s economic growth and low unemployment. Poland is taking part in G20 meetings this year at the invitation of the United States, which holds the group’s rotating presidency. Washington has publicly backed Warsaw’s bid for a permanent seat. Domański said there was also a strong chance Poland would be invited to the upcoming G20 summit. Turkey, meanwhile, has said it would consider supporting Poland’s membership bid, with Deputy Trade Minister Mustafa Tuzcu noting that admitting a new member requires consensus among G20 countries. Domański also said he would not hold bilateral talks with Russian representatives, maintaining his previous approach toward Moscow.
