Romanian President Nicușor Dan met Czech President Petr Pavel in Prague on Wednesday for talks focused on European security, Russia’s war against Ukraine, and closer cooperation between the two NATO allies. Dan was received at Prague Castle as part of his official visit to the Czech Republic, the first by a Romanian president in 17 years. The two leaders were expected to discuss bilateral, European and NATO cooperation, with particular attention to security along the alliance’s eastern flank. Defense-industry cooperation, investment and broader economic ties were also on the agenda. Romania has been strengthening its role in NATO’s eastern defenses, while the Czech Republic has repeatedly highlighted the security risks facing Europe amid Russia’s war against Ukraine. Dan’s schedule also included meetings with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, the heads of both chambers of parliament and members of the Romanian community in the country.
