Sebastian M., a 27-year-old described in some reports as a boxer, has appeared in court charged with murder. A Polish tourist has been charged with the murder of a Moroccan man after a fight broke out in a popular holiday hotspot in Malta. The alleged incident took place early on Sunday morning in Spinola Gardens, an entertainment district in the town of St Julian’s. The Polish suspect – whose name is redacted under privacy laws – has been identified as 27-year-old Sebastian M. He has been described by some media as a boxer, but other reports deny this claim. A court hearing heard that he currently works in the Netherlands. According to witnesses and CCTV footage, the Pole, who was on holiday in Malta, was involved in an altercation with the 31-year-old Moroccan victim, who has been named as Abdellatif Oumakhlouf. The Times of Malta reported that the victim had suffered a deep cut to the back of his head after being punched and falling to the ground. Arrested after ‘intensive search’ Maltese Police said they were called to the scene at around 6:30 am local time, where it was soon established that an argument had broken out “some time earlier.” Police added that the suspect had left the scene by that point but he was arrested around 90 minutes later following “an intensive search.” Sebastian M. appeared before a Maltese court on Monday and was charged with offenses including intentional homicide and causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death. He was also accused of repeat offending in relation to possible criminal charges in Poland. The 27-year-old was the subject of a Polish police notice issued in 2025 over alleged bodily harm offenses. Sebastian M. pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Polish outlet RMF reported that the suspect has not yet requested assistance from Polish consular authorities and is being represented locally by a court-appointed Maltese lawyer.
