Polish President Karol Nawrocki has called for a united international response after accusing Russia of destabilizing Europe through its war against Ukraine with hybrid operations and sabotage. Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, he said: “Disregard for international law cannot become the norm,” describing Moscow’s conduct as “imperial hubris.” He added that Poland was strengthening its alliances and military capabilities for deterrence rather than confrontation. The speech came during the 81st UN General Assembly, where Nawrocki has also held talks with world leaders. His New York visit has included discussions on regional security and closer defense cooperation with Washington, including a proposed permanent US Army base in Poland. Poland shares a border with Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave and has been among NATO’s strongest supporters of Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Nawrocki said Warsaw’s goal on NATO’s eastern flank was “deterrence and defense.”
