A parent of one of the school's other pupils restrained the attacker, who was aged just 11. A 10-year-old girl sustained a head injuries after being attacked with a hatchet by an 11-year-old boy at a primary school in northeastern Poland. The attack took place shortly before 8 a.m. on Tuesday at a primary school in the village of Ptaki in the Podlaskie region, some 160 kilometers northeast of Warsaw, police said. According to preliminary findings, the boy, a pupil at the same school, attacked the girl whom he encountered by chance in a corridor just moments after entering the building. A parent of one of the school’s other pupils restrained him, officials said. An ambulance was called and took the injured girl to a children’s hospital in regional capital Białystok. Hospital spokesperson Aneta Łukowska told Polish media outlets that the victim suffered multiple injuries but was in a stable condition. “A 10-year-old girl was admitted to the University Children’s Clinical Hospital in Białystok with injuries, mainly to the head, resulting from the use of a dangerous object,” she said. “A head scan was performed and further detailed investigations are underway. The girl is scared, but her condition is stable. She will definitely be kept in hospital for some time.” Police said they were questioning witnesses. Paramedics will decide whether the boy needs to be taken to a specialist medical facility for a psychiatric evaluation. Psychological support has also been offered to the pupils of the school in Ptaki, a village of around 200 people.
