Prague swept all three prizes at the 12th European Tramdriver Championship in Warsaw on Saturday, taking the awards for best female driver, best male driver and best overall team. Twenty-six two-person teams from European cities and Melbourne, Australia, competed on a course along Marszałkowska Street in Warsaw’s downtown. Drivers faced six challenges testing precision, braking, vehicle control and spatial awareness, including tram bowling and a water-spill test. Poland fielded teams from Warsaw and Gorzów Wielkopolski, whose Marta Urbańska and Grzegorz Lechocki won Poland’s national tram-driving competition in Poznań in June. The event formed part of Warsaw’s Public Transport Days and celebrations marking 160 years of tram transport in the Polish capital. Warsaw’s tram network extends across more than 350 kilometers. Luxembourg City is due to host next year’s competition.
