The explosions sent huge plumes of smoke into the air as 19 fire crews battled to control the blaze. Two people were injured when 10 gas tanks exploded during a large fire at a grain-drying facility in north-central Poland. The fire, which sent huge plumes of smoke into the air, broke out at the facility in the village of Osięciny, in Poland’s Kuyavian-Pomeranian region, on Friday just before noon. “The explosion was significant and could be seen from a long distance,” Małgorzata Jarocka-Krzemkowska, a spokesperson for the State Fire Service, said. Two people were injured in the incident, including one who suffered burns. The other person was conscious and was treated by paramedics. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Ten tanks explode Firefighters said there were 12 gas tanks at the facility, including 10 with a capacity of 6,000 liters each and two capable of holding 4,800 liters each. Ten of the tanks exploded, while firefighters used water cannons to cool the remaining two and prevent further explosions. The blaze also scorched the exterior wall of one of the facility’s silos and parts of its structure, but firefighters said the fire did not pose a threat to nearby buildings. A total of 19 fire crews were deployed to tackle the blaze, including units from the surrounding Radziejów and Włocławek counties.
