The United States is moving toward approving Germany’s transfer of 10 US-made Patriot air-defense interceptors to Ukraine as Kyiv faces a shortage of air-defense ammunition. A State Department notification published in the Congressional Record says Germany has proposed sending 10 MIM-104E GEM-T interceptors valued at $29.6 million. The transfer is subject to congressional review and could proceed if Congress does not pass a joint resolution blocking it. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said earlier this month that Berlin would urgently provide PAC-2 interceptors from Bundeswehr stocks as Ukraine prepares for another winter of Russian missile and drone attacks. Kyiv has been pressing allies for additional Patriot interceptors, while longer-term orders remain years from delivery. Ukraine is contracting for around 1,000 Patriot interceptors with allied support, but most are not expected to arrive soon. Russian strikes have continued to hit residential areas and critical infrastructure across Ukraine.
