Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said a ‘direct threat’ to a border crossing was averted overnight through cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian services. Speaking after a meeting of Visegrád Group leaders in Slovakia on Thursday, Tusk warned that Poland and other countries bordering Ukraine should be prepared for incidents of this kind linked to Russia. “Last night, thanks to cooperation between our services and their Ukrainian counterparts, a direct threat to a border crossing was averted,” Tusk said. “As you know, Russia has already resorted to provocative attacks on border crossings—for instance, in Moldova. We expect similar actions targeting border crossings with Ukraine in other countries, including Poland.” “Unfortunately, overnight we had a foretaste of this,” he said, adding that Poland must be prepared for further provocations, including acts of sabotage. Tusk did not provide details about the nature of the overnight threat or identify the crossing involved. TVP World has reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office asking for more details on the nature of the threat. Border crossings targeted Tusk’s remarks came a day after Russian drones struck the Starokozache border crossing in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, near the border with Moldova. The attack killed two people and wounded three, according to Ukrainian officials. Ukrainian border guards said Russia has targeted five frontier crossings in recent weeks, including four along the Moldovan border and one on the border with Romania, an EU and NATO member state. The strikes come as Moscow seeks to disrupt trade and logistics routes used by Ukraine. CIA warning Tusk also said he had received a “fairly precise report” directly from CIA Director John Ratcliffe concerning possible developments in the coming months. “Poland and the whole of Europe must be prepared for different scenarios when it comes to the situation not only on the Russian-Ukrainian front, but also on the European Union’s eastern flank,” Tusk added. Poland, a key NATO eastern flank state and one of Kyiv’s staunchest supporters, has been particularly on edge after a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile breached Polish airspace during a large-scale attack on Ukraine in late July. The missile, which according to Polish officials was carrying a “significant amount” of explosive material, crashed in a field near Tarnawa-Kolonia in eastern Poland, around 80 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
