Polish tennis star Iga Świątek has been knocked out of the US Open after suffering a straight-sets defeat to China’s Qinwen Zheng in the fourth round. Świątek lost 5-7, 3-6 to Zheng in New York on Monday, ending her bid for a second US Open title. Zheng took the opening set 7-5 before winning the second 6-3 to secure a place in the quarterfinals. Świątek, who won the US Open in 2022, had reached the last 16 after defeating Marie Bouzková of the Czech Republic 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3) in the previous round. The world No. 8 was the last Polish player remaining in the US Open singles competition, with her defeat bringing Poland’s run in the draw to an end. Zheng will meet either Japan’s Naomi Osaka or Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals as she chases a first Grand Slam singles title.
