Polish public broadcaster TVP has launched a news service aimed at audiences in Kazakhstan. “VT Qazaqstan News” will be available in Kazakh and Russian and broadcast from Monday to Friday every week via Belsat, TVP’s Belarusian-language channel, as well as online, including on YouTube and Facebook. TVP said the new service will focus on countering disinformation, including narratives originating from Russia, and on Kazakhstan’s developing relations with the EU, Poland and other Western countries. “Thanks to a local journalistic team, we can create content rooted in the realities of the country, while showing developments in Kazakhstan from a broader European perspective,” said Michał Broniatowski, head of TVP’s International Media Centre. Jerzy Sałodki, head of Vot Tak, TVP’s Russian-language news channel, said: “As a European broadcaster, we will objectively present information about current events to the Kazakh audience, treating this as our contribution to the democratization process.” TVP expands regional network The new service will be produced by Kazakh journalists familiar with the country’s politics, culture and audience. TVP has already launched similar services this year for Georgia, Armenia and Moldova. Its International Media Centre currently produces content in 11 languages for audiences outside Poland.
