Rescue operations continued Sunday along the Nepal–China border as authorities warned of renewed flooding after Wednesday’s glacier collapse sent ice, rock, mud and water through Himalayan valleys. More than 800 people have been confirmed dead across Nepal and Tibet, while more than 3,000 remain missing. Nepalese authorities say more than 9,000 people have been rescued, but hundreds of hydropower workers and foreign nationals are still unaccounted for. Bad weather and unstable debris dams have repeatedly forced teams to halt searches, while rising water levels in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems triggered fresh alerts. The Red Cross estimates that more than 90,000 people may have been affected. Rescue teams are also trying to reach workers believed trapped inside flooded hydropower tunnels as authorities monitor newly formed lakes upstream in Nepal.
