He appeared in popular and well-received films including “The Piano,” “Dead Calm” and “The Hunt for Red October,” as well as the era-defining “Jurassic Park” series. He also worked with Polish director Andrzej Żuławski on his 1981 psychological horror film “Possession,” in which he starred alongside Isabelle Adjani. Neill disclosed in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with stage-three angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare blood cancer. In April this year, he said scans showed no cancer following CAR T-cell therapy.
