Google has opened a second office in the southern Polish city of Krakow as the US technology giant expands what it says has become its largest engineering hub in the European Union. The new office opened on Tuesday has 300 desks, occupies four floors in a business complex building and includes laboratories, conference rooms and collaborative workspaces. Magda Rabiej, director of Google's Krakow branch, said: "Opening a second office in Krakow, in the Tertium complex, is a natural step in the development of our engineering center (...). We are proud that this is where Google's global technologies are created." Poland has been steadily building up its position as a technology and research center for dominant firms, with Google engineers in the country working on products ranging from Android and Chrome to cloud infrastructure used by some of the world's largest companies. Google's Krakow engineering center now employs more than 400 specialists working on global projects spanning Google Cloud infrastructure, data-processing systems and the company's Platforms & Devices division, including Android, Chrome, Pixel devices and Android Auto. Google has been present in Poland for 20 years and employs about 3,000 people across offices in Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw. Around 80% of its Polish workforce are software engineers, making the country one of Google's key global engineering locations and its largest engineering hub in the EU.
