The junction, which links the east-west D1 highway with the D4 city bypass, opened in full on Sunday and will help divert international traffic before it enters the city. Polish contractor Budimex built the €120 million project, which included 18 bridges, eight new ramps and the modernization of more than five kilometers of the D1 motorway. More than 3,000 workers and 1,600 pieces of equipment were involved, the firm said. The project became Budimex’s first contract in Slovakia after it entered the market in 2021. The Warsaw-based firm is involved in several international developments, including Rail Baltica, the standard-gauge rail project intended to link the Baltic states with Europe.
