Speaking in Brussels alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Rutte said US commitment was visible through American troops in Europe, leadership within NATO and contributions to collective defense. Støre said Norway still viewed the US as its most important ally, citing security concerns in the High North and Norway’s border with Russia. But he also pointed to deepening defense cooperation with the UK, Germany, France, Poland, the Netherlands and Canada. The remarks came after an independent survey found that only 11% of respondents across 15 European countries now see the US as an ally.
