The girl, identified as Lyhanna, disappeared on May 29 after leaving school in Fleurance. Her body was found on June 4 near her hometown and formally identified the following day. A 41-year-old man, the father of one of her classmates, was arrested after investigators said he had been seen with her on the day she vanished. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said the judicial system had “failed to protect this little girl” and ordered prosecutors to review around 70,000 ongoing cases involving violence against minors.
