Nawrocki’s spokesperson, Rafał Leśkiewicz, said the report was made through the 112 emergency number, prompting the dispatch of firefighters who forced their way into the property, only to find it empty. The State Fire Service reported that it had received text messages on Saturday evening about a fire at the premises as well as reports of a cardiac arrest at the same address. Due to the seriousness of the claims and the fact that attempts to contact the sender proved fruitless, the service deployed emergency teams. Leśkiewicz said that for over a week, emergency services have been inundated with false alarms, which he said have pertained to “journalists and public figures connected with the [political] right.” Tusk described Saturday’s incident as another “telephone provocation” and said he had expressed solidarity with the president. He said the hoax was a national security issue and pledged to find the culprits. “We will use all available means to identify and apprehend the saboteurs, wherever they are from and whoever is behind them,” Tusk said in a post on the X platform. Right-wing fury Some politicians from the Nawrocki-aligned conservative opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party sought to lay blame on Tusk’s government over the incident, suggesting the response had political undertones and pointing to alleged security failures. Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki portrayed the emergency response as a “raid by the security services on President Nawrocki’s family home”, while the party’s PM candidate for the next elections, Przemysław Czarnek, branded it a “provocation.” At Sunday morning’s meeting of the Government Security Center, Tusk appealed for political restraint in order to “curb the wave of speculation and unfounded assumptions as quickly as possible.” He appealed for people to “refrain from seeking political context” in the matter and to not drag the incident into the “ongoing partisan dispute” between the government and president. Tusk later added on X that some PiS politicians’ comments amounted to “either extreme cynicism or extreme stupidity.”
