At a United Nations meeting in Vienna, Poland’s ambassador to the UN Office there, Marek Szczygieł, said more frequent Moon missions would increase the risk of harm to the lunar environment and heritage sites. The debate comes as governments and private firms prepare for renewed exploration of the Moon, including future resource activity. Sites cited by advocates include Apollo 11, where humans first set foot on another celestial body, China’s Chang’e 4 landing site on the far side of the Moon and India’s Chandrayaan-3 landing near the lunar south pole. Poland’s growing role in space was highlighted in 2025, when Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski became the second Pole to go to space.
