One march, called Unite the Kingdom, was organized by far-right activist Tommy Robinson and focused on immigration. Protesters waved British and English flags and chanted in support of Robinson, while some directed abuse at Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who had accused the organizers of “peddling hate and division.” A separate pro-Palestinian march marked the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, the displacement of Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. Participants carried Palestinian flags and anti-far-right signs. The demonstration comes amid continuing anger over Israel’s war in Gaza and wider tensions across the Middle East. The Metropolitan Police deployed about 4,000 officers, supported by helicopters, dogs and specialist units.
