Based at the Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet AGH, the project introduced on Monday will become one of Europe’s 19 AI factories and one of two such centers in Poland, alongside the PIAST AI Factory in Poznan. The initiative is part of the European Union’s broader push to strengthen digital sovereignty by providing European users with access to AI-optimized supercomputing infrastructure, data resources, training and deployment support. The Gaia project is valued at about €70 million and is jointly financed by Poland and the European Union. Marek Magryś, acting director of Cyfronet, said the hub would cooperate with AI centers in neighboring countries, including the Czech Republic, Germany, France and the Nordic region.
