The change marks an expansion beyond its previous status as a minority‑language exam and reflects the impact of Poland’s large Ukrainian community following Russia’s full‑scale invasion of Ukraine. According to exam declarations from the Central Examination Board, 353 students chose Ukrainian at the advanced level, 64 at the bilingual level and 139 at the basic level. English remains by far the most popular advanced foreign language, selected by a clear majority of this year’s graduates. Around 345,000 current graduates are taking this year’s matura, while the broader candidate pool, including retakers, is roughly 450,000.
