A Czech national also sustained head injuries during the crash. Local police, who did not name the victim, said that the collision on Sunday occurred over “difficult-to-reach terrain” above the Borišov Mountain, which is part of Slovakia’s Greater Fatra mountain range. Slovakia’s mountain rescue service, HZS, said: “The pilot of one glider was an Austrian man who escaped without injuries. The other aircraft was carrying a Czech co-pilot and a pilot from Poland. “The co-pilot escaped the crash thanks to an ejection with head and lower limb injuries, but the other crew member was not so lucky. “The 65-year-old Polish pilot unfortunately suffered life-threatening injuries when the glider crashed.” The pilots had been taking part in the international FCC Gliding competition, in which several dozen glider pilots from various countries participated. The event was scheduled to run from April 12-23, but the rest of Sunday’s event was canceled following the crash.
