US President Donald Trump said in a social media post that Israel would not strike the facility again unless Iran renewed attacks on Qatari energy sites, warning that the United States could massively hit South Pars if Qatar were targeted further. In response to the Iranian strikes, a group of Arab and regional states issued a joint statement condemning Tehran and calling for an end to further attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure. Relations have also worsened between Iran and Qatar, which has ordered the expulsion of Iranian embassy military and security attachés and some of their staff following the attacks on the Ras Laffan gas hub. The latest escalation has fueled anger across the region, as Gulf governments increasingly reject Iran’s portrayal of the strikes as retaliation against US interests and instead frame them as unjustified aggression against their own territory. Fighting between Hezbollah and Israel in Lebanon is also ongoing, while the situation around the Strait of Hormuz remains tense amid mounting evidence that shipping lanes and energy flows have been severely disrupted.
