Asked whether the US missile defense base in Redzikowo could be used against Iran, Sikorski said the system, under agreements he negotiated and signed, is designed to detect and intercept ballistic missiles threatening Europe and the United States. He added that Iran had not launched any such missiles. Sikorski also said Washington and Jerusalem have their own assessment of the threat posed by Tehran and that, while Polish and American interests largely overlap, they are not identical. In his view, he has not seen convincing public evidence that Iran is currently preparing a direct ballistic‑missile attack on the United States or Europe, while acknowledging that Tehran poses serious security challenges in its own region.
