Radosław Sikorski spoke to the media alongside EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas as regional ministers met at an informal Council of the Baltic Sea States gathering in Warsaw. The pair warned that the escalating Middle East conflict could distract from Russia’s war in Ukraine, with Kallas saying that some of the military capabilities being deployed in the Gulf are also urgently needed on Ukraine’s battlefields. Sikorski participant pointed to Iran-designed Shahed drones as a common thread between the conflicts. “Thousands of these machines of destruction have hit countries that did not attack Iran,” he said. “Fifty-seven thousand have already been launched at Ukraine. So I hope it makes U.S. decision-making realize that Russia and Iran are in it together and that both Israel and Ukraine need security for development.” The ministers also discussed the impact of Middle East instability on Europe’s energy markets, but stressed that support for Kyiv must remain a priority, with any end to the war requiring a “just and fair” outcome for Ukraine.
