Ischinger said Poland still views the reparations issue as unresolved and argued that Berlin could allocate part of its expanding defense budget to support Poland’s role on NATO’s eastern flank. He added that Germany’s increased military spending could revive fears of German dominance in Europe and said sharing resources with Poland would signal a defensive, cooperative approach. Ischinger credited former Polish ambassador Janusz Reiter with the idea.
