The controversy stems from revelations that AfD legislators have submitted thousands of security-related parliamentary inquiries, including detailed questions about military aid routes to Ukraine, air-defense systems, and other aspects of Germany’s defense and infrastructure. According to reporting based on an analysis by Der Spiegel, AfD MPs accounted for a disproportionately large share of such inquiries nationwide since 2020, in some assessments roughly one-third of detailed security requests, more than any other party.
