Georgia and Russia are officially not on speaking terms. Diplomatic relations were severed after the 2008 war, one-fifth of Georgia’s territory remains under Russian occupation, and Tbilisi insists ties will not be restored unless Moscow reverses its recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
