The facility will be built by the U.S.-based company Onsemi and will produce advanced silicon-carbide (SiC) power semiconductors. According to the Commission, this will be the first integrated SiC device manufacturing plant in Europe covering the full production chain. The project is being pursued under the framework of the European Chips Act, which aims to reduce the EU’s reliance on Asian suppliers and strengthen strategic supply-chain resilience.
