Under the ruling coalition agreement, New Left politician Włodzimierz Czarzasty is expected to succeed him, requiring an absolute majority in a vote that must include at least half of all MPs. Parties in the governing bloc—Civic Coalition, Poland 2050, the Polish People’s Party and the New Left—have pledged support. Opposition right-wingers Law and Justice and Confederation have said they will vote against his candidacy along with left-wing party Razem.
