Maja Klajda from the small town of Łęczna beat off competition from over 100 other hopefuls at the competition’s grand finale in India on Saturday to become the only woman from Europe to be crowned. The former Miss Polonia winner, who studies at the University of Warsaw, was pipped to the post by Thailand’s Opal Suchata Chuangsri, who took first place, and Hasset Dereje Admassu from Ethiopia, who took second. The Miss Polonia Foundation celebrated the achievement on Instagram, calling it “the greatest success for Poland after the great victories of Karolina Bielawska and Aneta Kręglicka,” former Polish Miss World titleholders. “Maja is very proud! Congratulations from the bottom of our hearts!” the foundation added. In addition to her pageant career, Klajda is active in social projects supporting children and young people from challenging backgrounds and leads workshops on mental health.
