Three Polish tennis players have made the top 30 of the women’s game for the first time.
Under the WTA’s latest rankings, Iga Świątek remains in second place, behind Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who holds a commanding 3,071-point advantage. Further down the ranking, Magdalena Fręch moved up two places to 28th and Magda Linette stepped up a spot to 30th.
The Poles did not play last week, and the advancement of Fręch and Linette is primarily due to the big drop of American Danielle Collins, who was unable to defend her title at the Charleston Open.
Only the United States (five) and Russia (four) have more female players in the top 30 than Poland, which is heavily stacked with players from Central and Eastern Europe.
There are two Czechs—Karolína Muchová (12th) and Barbora Krejčíková (15th), two Ukrainians—Elina Svitolina (18th) and Marta Kostyuk (25th), and a Latvian, Jeļena Ostapenko (24th).
Significantly further down the list, Katarzyna Kawa has made a major leap in the rankings; after reaching the Copa Colsanitas final, she moved from 223rd to 156th position. The fourth-highest-ranked Polish female, Maja Chwalińska, maintained her place in 121st.
