‘President Trump has been fooled,’ says Ukrainian MP Kira Rudik on On The Record

Kira Rudik, a Ukrainian opposition MP, has said President Donald Trump has been “fooled” by Putin, and criticized the U.S. president’s approach to the war in Ukraine, saying it is “failing to deliver,” during an interview for TVP World’s On The Record show.

Speaking with host Adam Jasser, Rudik, the leader of Ukraine’s opposition party Holos (Voice), addressed Trump’s widely publicized claim that he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours.

“Unfortunately, right now he is failing to deliver,” she said. “There are not so many cards on the table when they are trying to agree with Russia.”

The interview highlighted the shifting rhetoric from Trump and his camp, particularly regarding Russia and Vladimir Putin. Rudik was blunt in her assessment of Trump's positioning: “President Trump has been fooled.”

She added: “We haven’t seen a single fact supporting the statement that Putin wants peace.

“It is very painful that one of our strongest allies seems to be so unpredictable and not delivering on promises,” she continued.

Rudik emphasized that the desire for peace is strongest among Ukrainians themselves but stressed that any resolution must be grounded in real security guarantees.

“There is no other nation that wants the war to end more than us,” she said. “But how do we make sure that Russia wouldn’t just manufacture more drones from Iran or wherever and then attack us again?”

Despite Rudik's opposition role, she said that the country has largely united behind President Zelenskyy following his confrontational meeting with Trump in the Oval Office. “We think that he was right,” Rudik explained. “You cannot end the war in 24 hours, and you shouldn’t be trusting Putin.”

She concluded with a broader warning. “It’s not only Europe watching. I wonder what China, Iran, North Korea and Russia are thinking. And I’m absolutely sure they are clapping their hands.”
