Donald Trump has said that there will be a full ceasefire “very soon” in Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

Speaking from the Oval Office on Friday, the U.S. president said: “We are going to have a full ceasefire very soon in the Russia-Ukraine war,” according to news outlet CNN.

Trump added that a contract was being negotiated that would address the division of land between Kyiv and Moscow, CNN reported.

“We’re going to have a contract, and the contract is being negotiated…The contract in terms of dividing up the lands, etcetera, etcetera, it’s being negotiated as we speak,” the president reportedly said.

Trump has made finding a resolution to the war in Ukraine a priority of his administration, saying that he wants to be remembered as a peacemaker.

However, many European powers are concerned that the U.S. president could be turning his back on Europe for a bargain that makes significant concessions to Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
