A new video game has fueled interest in visiting the Czech Republic, despite being set in war-torn Bohemia 700 years ago.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (KCD 2) centers around Henry of Skalitz, a 14th-century man-at-arms, crisscrossing Bohemia in search of justice. It offers open-world RPG gameplay with first-person combat, skill-based progression and realistic survival mechanics.

KCD 2 sold two million copies in its first two weeks, making it the second best-selling premium game in the U.S. The game currently ranks among Steam’s most-played single-player titles.

Its rapid success, along with its realistic medieval settings, has also sparked fresh interest in the towns and areas that are used as a backdrop for the game.

Tour operators are reporting an increase in inquiries about key locations featured in KCD 2, including the historic town of Kutná Hora—known as Kuttenberg in the game—along with the ruins of Trosky Castle and Malešov Fortress—both actual places, located in central Czech Republic.

Jan Pechač from a company offering tours in the Czech Republic told the Czech news website Prague Morning that while bookings have not yet surged, he expects a sharp rise as spring and summer approach, when most tourists plan their trips.

Other tour companies in the country have also seen increasing interest and, keen to capitalize on it, have launched KCD 2 tours, while some have started incorporating references to the game into their tours.
