A full ceasefire in Ukraine remains doubtful despite diplomatic efforts, Bohdan Nahaylo, Editor-in-Chief of The Kyiv Post, and Jozef Hrabina, a geopolitical risk advisor at GeopoLytics, have told TVP World.
“At the moment, I think [the chances for the ceasefire] are very remote,” said Nahaylo. He argued that while Washington applies a mix of “carrot and stick tactics,” the U.S. has been more lenient toward Moscow while pressuring Kyiv.
Jozef Hrabina echoed this view, saying that Russia sees no need to negotiate. “Can you name a single conflict in written history where the victorious power made concessions?” he asked. He added that “chaos is really playing into Russia’s hands,” allowing it to advance militarily.
The panelists also discussed U.S. policy under Donald Trump, with Nahaylo suggesting that the former president is seeking to negotiate over Ukraine’s future without its direct involvement. “Trump seems to want to make a deal over the head of Ukraine, over the head of Europe,” he said.
