Tennis ace Iga Świątek secured a dominant 6-3, 6-3 victory over China's Zheng Qinwen on Thursday, avenging her shock loss at the Paris Olympics and booking a spot in the Indian Wells semifinals.
The Polish star, who fell to Zheng in last year’s Olympic semifinals, converted all five of her break-point chances in a 94-minute match disrupted multiple times to dry the court.
“At the end it got really windy, which made it super tricky, especially when the conditions change during the match; you need to adjust quickly and it's not that easy,” Świątek said.
“"It was a weird match with all the breaks and everything but I wanted to be composed and really focused, and I'm glad that I did that.”
The 23-year-old will now face 17-year-old Russian sensation Mirra Andreeva, who defeated Elina Svitolina 7-5, 6-3 to become the youngest Indian Wells semifinalist since Maria Sharapova in 2005.
Andreeva, riding a 10-match win streak, defeated Świątek last month in Dubai on her way to the title.
