Several industrial areas in Russia have been hit by strong explosions, including near a metallurgical plant used for Russia’s defense sector, according to media reports.
Residents in the city of Lipetsk in western Russia reported hearing several strong explosions and the launch of air defense systems near the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, Ukrainian news agency UNIAN reported on Sunday morning, citing Russian media outlets.
The plant is one of the largest such facilities in Russia and plays a significant role in the country’s defense sector, UNIAN added.
Explosions were also reported near an oil refinery in the western Russian region of Ryazan, where local authorities said a drone was shot down. No casualties have been reported.
Russia’s defense ministry said that six drones were shot down in the southern Rostov region during the night, UNIAN reported, adding that a house caught fire as a result of debris.

The Kursk and Voronezh regions in western Russia were also reportedly targeted by drone attacks.
Ukrainian drones frequently target Russian oil installations, which Kyiv sees as legitimate military targets supplying fuel for Moscow’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
