Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has said peace in the air and at sea should be a first step to end the country’s war with Russia.
Zelenskyy posted his comments on the X platform the day after Russia pounded Ukraine’s critical infrastructure with missiles and drones in the early hours of Friday. Power and gas facilities were hit in the attacks, described by the Ukrainian energy minister as “energy terror.”
Zelenskyy wrote that Russia had launched close to 70 rockets, including both cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as almost 200 attack drones.
In reference to the overnight attack, Zelenskyy wrote that “the first steps toward real peace must include forcing the sole source of this war, Russia, to stop such attacks against life.”
The president concluded by saying Ukraine is “ready to pursue the path to peace” but that the task remains to “force Russia to stop the war.”
